Another Reason College Football Will Never Be as Good as Pro
I’m not sure I even have to make an argument about this; it’s self-evident to me on the basis of this one article and its implications:
ACC Sends Record Ten Teams to Bowls
The current bowl system is an absolute joke, and not a funny one at that. Ten ACC teams are going to bowl games (and with one more win, assumedly, UVa would as well). I’m an ACC fan, but the truth is that the ACC this year was a muddled mishmash of mediocrity, and if the bowls were interested in having two good football teams face each other, there might be three ACC teams going (let’s say Tech, BC, and Florida State).
And I’m not even talking about the morass that is the BCS.
I think that the best thing fans could do for college football is to ignore the bowls, the ridiculous spectacles that most of them are, and perhaps we could get the playoff that makes so much sense that only a collection of college presidents could miss that point.
Come on, Byron, you know the reason for the bowls IS the spectacle. It’s about TV ratings and putting butts in the seats…

TV ratings? Do people really care about watching some of these little silly bowls? Wouldn’t most folks prefer to watch college football’s best teams play several times over the course of a month than watch Northern Illinois and Troy? Wouldn’t those games attract better ratings? Seems like it to me…
