Of course liberals have never been particularly constrained by integrity and principle; they change the rules to suit their circumstances without even the pretense of consistency. The reason they had to have a special election at this point was that the Democrats were worried back in 2004 that John Kerry might become President.

I am sure you were worried as well.

And to prevent Mitt Romney imposing a Republican Senator, the Democrats came up with the scheme that there had to be a special election quickly- rather than waiting till the next set of Congressional elections.

The irony is that something brought in to prevent a Republican becoming Senator has led to the good people of Massachusetts electing a Republican Senator!]]></description>
