Which Would You Choose?

This is just hypothetical–I hope–but I’ve been thinking about this lately, and wonder if my readers would agree (at least those willing to respond one way or the other): the question is, which do I love more, the United States, or freedom? I ask for reasons which ought to be obvious.

For me, it’s the latter, and it’s not even a hard call. What think ye?

I grew up thinking the US was synonymous with freedom, but with government getting bigger and bigger it feels more like I’m in a controlled environment. I’m being told what I need – govt. wants to take care of me, on my dime. I’m being told MORE of my tax money needs to be SPENT to get us OUT of debt.

Obama is having a time getting his health care plan approved; maybe he should present it as something that all those who want to take part can, and those who don’t can stay with the current system. He can use the Democrats taxes to pay for it, since they’re the ones that wanted all this CHANGE. (four years from now we need to make that OUR slogan)

One of the definitions of freedom is: exemption from external control, interference, regulation, etc. It seems our govt. has forgotten this.

When I voted for Bush I felt good about it, I liked what he stood for and that he was a praying man. I started getting nervous when he wanted to go to war with Iraq, and we all know how that turned out; and I’m not happy with the debt govt. ran up during those years, but these are things no one could have known would happen.

On the other hand, putting Obama in office was a train wreck waiting to happen; he made no secret of the changes he wanted to make and the ones he’s making are even worse than we expected! I think even some who voted for him are having second thoughts.

I’ve prayed for him to have wisdom, but I’m not sure it will help him if he’s not praying for it, too.

I’m beginning to understand why the South wanted to get out from under the Federal Govt.

As a matter of curiosity, what made you think that question? Is there something you see on the horizon which leads you to think you will have to make a choice one way or the other in the near future?

@Graham: We have elected a socialist as president, giving rise to the hopes of socialists already residing in Congress that they can finally get their far-left, freedom-destroying agenda passed. I do not believe that a choice such as I’ve posited will have to be made during this president’s first term, but I’m sitting here wondering if freedom, as we’ve known it, can possibly survive two terms of Barack Obama.

And when freedom is taken away, it’s more a case of people being frightened into handing it over.

“All we’re doing is giving the police the tools they need to protect us from criminals”

“Only those with something to hide have anything to fear from this proposal”

    Yep. Right on.
