Tony Jones' Emergent Heresy

DSC_7922

Tony Jones is a name that has been associated with the “emerging church” for some years now; I read one of his books early on, and liked a lot of what he said. Lately, though, Tony has really, sadly, gone off the deep end; his latest offering seems little short of heresy:

Why Jesus Died

Justin Taylor points out that J.I. Packer gets it right: if there’s no place in your gospel for the concept of propitiation, what you have is no gospel at all.

    DOUBLE YIKES!

And the scary part is I must be really tired tonight, because I had to read and re-read to catch the worst of it….first read I’m like “eh, it’s a little wonky but so is the shack etc etc…”

So I read it again and I’m thinking WHAT is Byron seeing?

And I read it a third time and WHOA! Yep, THERE it is – Wowza…shouldn’t read anything too quickly after a long day!

    LOL
Can’t wait to see what he says in response to your accusation of heresy….

I was okay with his statements until the end. Then he took a nose dive. Solidarity like this reminds me of “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life” from “Life of Brian”. If that’s all Jesus did, then I applaud him, but he’s no Savior (and I wonder why he didn’t just die in his sleep).
