Be a Patriot: Do NOT Buy Chrysler or GM Cars

DSC_7922

You heard me. I’ve been thinking this for some time now, and though I don’t buy new cars anyway, at least at this point in my life, even if I were in the market, I’d immediately rule out GMs and Chryslers, and I’d consider myself a patriot for doing so. If GM and Chrysler can take government money, they don’t need mine.

My wife just told me that family members had taken the same position–and they are in the market for a car. Good for them. If every American took this position, we’d force the automakers into bankruptcy, which is where they ought to have gone in the first place. The Bush/Obama administration screwed up royally by injecting government into the auto industry, and I will not reward these companies for taking government money.

I thought that “government money” was “taxpayers’ money”.

At some point, the amount of your money that has gone to bail them out will equal the selling price of one car. All you (and everyone else) needs to do is go to their local garages and drive off a brand-new GM or Chrysler car without paying for it on the grounds that you have already paid that same amount in tax.

Hadn’t THOUGHT of that! So, maybe if I lobby government to give a little MORE money to the automakers, then I can just claim mine! Great idea!

Yeah, not surprising. This is what should have happened in the first place for these companies: bankruptcy to allow sensible restructuring. Instead, we’ll get it anyway, after a gazillion of our dollars have been pooted down the drain.

Yes, accept that this kind of restructuring will likely result in the United Auto Workers Union having its pension plans backed by federal taxpayer dollars.
