Surprise: Government is Failing to Keep Promises

DSC_7922

People continue to put faith in big government–witness the election of Comrade Obama, for example–and big government continues to fail them. Can any of us honestly be shocked by this headline?

Benefits Neglected for Civil Retirees

Not if we’re paying attention. The more we trust government to do the right thing, to keep its word, particularly when it comes to handling our financial future, the more we set ourselves up for disappointment. it is immoral to make promises and not keep them (as in this case, as well as Socialist Security and Medicare, detailed in a previous column); it is immoral to pass a bill such as the bill that Obama will sign tomorrow and place a backbreaking financial burden on our children and grandchildren.

And it frosts me that nobody is willing to call such things “immoral”. Some of my evangelical lefty friends like to point out (and I agree with them) that “budgets are moral documents” (even though I vehemently disagree with many of their “solutions” to the problems of the poor, the environment, etc.). Well…where’s the outrage about these immoralities?

I’m rambling; I think I’ll stop.
