Why Apple/Mac Will Never Get my Business

DSC_7922

Apple has come down on the wrong side in the ongoing debate about marriage:

Apple Fights Proposition 8

What I wrote to Apple:

Because of Apple’s decision to actively support the defeat of Proposition 8, the “gay marriage ban” in California, I have chosen to remove Apple products both from my personal computer and my work computer, and will encourage others, via my blog, to do the same. Apple will never receive my business as a result of this business decision. I believe in equal rights for all people, but “gay marriage” is not about equal rights, and is already having a negative effect upon real marriage.

Sincerely,

Byron D. Harvey

OK, I agree with your stance about equal rights…

But I must ask what evidence you would proffer that gay marriage is “already having a negative effect upon real marriage”. I don’t necessarily disagree, but on what basis is the claim made?

@Hefe: Simple: when the definition of marriage is altered, marriage itself becomes cheapened for those who did not sign up under that definition. Yes, I’m speaking theoretically here, more than practically, but I believe it to be true. On the practical side, two incidents in California involving very small schoolchildren–indoctrinating them to the “normality” of “gay marriage”–will have long-range effects.
