Joe Biden…Hot DAWG!!!

Here’s a smorgasbord of opinions on Smokin’ Barry’s Veepstakes winner:

Around the Horn: Joe Biden for Vice-President

I’ve got to tell you, as someone who is very concerned that Smokin’ Barry Obama never reach the White House, given his latent socialism and breathtaking inexperience, I am thrilled with the choice of Joe Biden as his running mate. Tim Kaine, though he lacks experience and would have made this clearly the least-experienced ticket in memory, is nonetheless a popular governor in the Old Dominion, which has become a swing state. Evan Bayh would also have been a strategic choice, as Indiana is a critical state as well. Hillary, for her foibles, would have introduced a real wildcard into the whole affair. Bill Richardson has some appeal too. What does Joe Biden bring? On the one hand, I’ll concede that he does add “weight” to the ticket; he’d probably make a better veep than some I’ve named. But on the biggest front, I think he adds absolutely zero to this ticket in the area of electibility. Yes, I realize that vice-presidents typically don’t add a lot, but in states like VA and IN, it might not take a lot to push the Messiah over the top and give him an electoral victory. And in that regard Biden, from tiny blue-state Delaware, adds nothing. Further, he’s a loudmouth, and is almost guaranteed to say some stupid things in this election. I’ll tell you, I’m thrilled by this choice.

Now, it’s up to McCain to make a good move in choosing his veep. Politically-speaking, Obama’s choice of Biden could be nicely trumped if John McCain were to choose Sarah Palin, governor of Alaska, to share the ticket with him. Sarah is an incredible woman, a fresh face (OK, sure, she doesn’t have all that much experience, I grant) who would put a wonderful new face on the GOP. From what I know of her, I believe that she would impress a whole lot of people, and might put McCain over the top. Stay tuned…

Obama/Biden leaves a hole wide nuff for a Mack Truck but only with Sarah Palin as the driver!

I’m sure that most stupid things Joe Biden says will simply be lifted from one of Neil Kinnock’s speeches anyway.

Despite the Dems and the allied main stream media’s desperation to see Romney as McCain’s Veep, Mitt is clearly out, with (1) Obama doubling down on the class warfare theme (McCain’s 7 houses) and (2) McCain doubling down with ads showing the hypocrisy of Biden attacking Obama in the primaries — Romney did way more than that contra McCain.

This leaves only Govs Sarah Palin and Tim Pawlenty. Pro-abortion Ridge and Dem-Lieberman were never real considerations, despite relentless media goading. Pawlenty’s lackluster TV performances, coupled with Palin pizzazz, the primacy of oil drilling and the ticked off women/Hillary voters, does now portend a McCain/Palin checkmate on the Dems. This is so albeit the Dems and liberal media dare not mention Palin’s name, that is, everyone but…..

And if there’s any question as to Palin being uniquely positioned and able to more than nullify Biden in debate, see the excellent discussion at palinforvp.blogspot.com

    Team McCain, well done!!!

I had a look at the site in Ted’s post and the one thing that leapt out at me was the suggestion that Mr Biden would belittle Mrs Palin as a housewife.

Hmm. After all, part of the image that Lady Thatcher projected before becoming Prime Minister was that of the housewife- the person who is grounded in the real world, who is able to come up with commonsense ideas like the average housewife knowing that you cannot spend more than you earn etc.

Lord Rees-Mogg has an interesting article in London’s “The Times” about Joe Biden’s role in Robert Bork’s failure to get appointed to the Supreme Court:

Why can’t we have politicians with names like “Lord Rees-Mogg”???

What’s the matter? “Messiah” not good enough for you?

With the Russian invasion of democratic Georgia, it looks like a new version of the cold war won’t be too far behind. Thank goodness John McCain will take over the White House next January. The thing we must count on to fight the most dangerous terrorist nation in the world, Russia, is a strong military. There’s only one candidate that will reinstitute the military draft in America and that’s John McCain. With more American troops, we can win in Iraq and Afganistan and we can also rescue our friend Georgia. I pray that McCain brings back the draft when he’s President.

    Sarge,
I agree with your comments. Our son just shipped out for his third (3rd) deployment to Iraq. He was scheduled to go to college back in 2005 and decided that he needed to serve his country first. I believe that “all” citizens 18 years of age or older should be required to serve at least three years in the military after high school. Israel requires their citizens to do just that. They require their young men and women to serve in the IDF (Israel Defence Force) for three years. It’s manditory for all Israeli citizens to serve their country. John McCain is our only hope for the current troops that now serve to get some relief from multiple deployments. I believe McCain will bring back the military draft.

The thing about Georgia is that I didn’t see any of the Stop The War Coalition demonstrating against one nation (Russia) invading another (Georgia) for oil [the pipeline from the Caspain Sea to the Mediterranean- the one which was crucial to the plot of the James Bond film “The World Is Not Enough”- goes right through Georgia; and Russia would be in a more powerful position if they controlled it]

  11. Wendy on August 28, 2008 at 2:35 pm

    Graham,

Georgia has asked America for help to defend their nation against the Russian invasion. Without any doubt, I think it is our duty to immediately send American troops into Georgia, on a unilateral basis, to come to the aid of our friend. If this means we need more troops then I think it’s time to begin drafting our young people to go and fight for freedom and democracy in Georgia.

I am acctually offended by sarge and wendy.
I am 23 years old and married have a family and 2 children. You are both saying that I should be taken from my family, to go put a bullet in someones head, so when I get back to my family, my kids dont recognize me.
I pray OBAMA wins. for the sake of my kids.

Do you realise that our nation is TRILLIONS of dollars in the hole because of the war machine!

  13. greg on August 28, 2008 at 4:17 pm

Our country can not afford to keep these wars going.

  14. Wendy on August 28, 2008 at 7:18 pm

    greg,

This country was founded by patriots. It took the courage of brave fighting men to begin the revolution that ended British rule back in 1776. The civil war was fought by brave men who were asked to step up and offer their lives and fortunes for the principles of freedom and democracy. American fighting men signed up during WW1 and WW2 in record numbers to defend our freedom and liberties. Now we face new dangers in the Middle East and in the Baltic States. President George W. Bush has asked America to help him fight terrorism around the world and soon John McCain will do the same. Freedom comes at a high cost. Sometimes our brave veterans must die so that the rest of us can enjoy this freedom. As our President, John McCain will ask us for help to fight terrorism. If my wish comes true, he will reinstitute the military draft to build our military up in preparation for that global fight. Patriots in America will step up and answer the call. A few selfish individuals will hide or run off to Canada. I believe that America has many more patriots than we do cowards. I believe when your draft notice comes, you will reconsider and you will answer the call like so many brave American veterans have done for the past 200 plus years.

  15. greg on August 28, 2008 at 7:52 pm

no. I respect those that do, but it should always be by choice.

do you have any idea how corrupt our government really is.

I encourage you to do a little searching about 9/11. you were lied to.

  16. Sarge on August 28, 2008 at 7:54 pm

    Wendy,

I want to congratulate your son for seeing beyond his own selfish desires and having a vision to see America remain the “land of the free and the home of the brave”. It must be very hard for a parent to watch their son ship out for his 3rd time in a place that is so dangerous. Your son is a very brave veteran. He is a gift to this nation. He, along with so many other brave veterans, deserve our gratitude and thanks for answering the call and stepping up to the challenge. While many are preparing to go off to college across this nation, they forget that those who are paying the price for their freedom to go to college are over in the Middle East fighting for these freedoms. You are correct when you say that America has many more patriots than there are cowards. We’ve seen it in the past and we will see it again when President McCain brings back the military draft. Of those who will receive their draft notice, I believe very few will avoid this very important and patriotic duty. I believe very few will run away to Canada. I believe very few will hide from their responsibility. I believe most will turn out to be be brave patriots and answer the call to duty. God bless America.

  17. Wendy on August 28, 2008 at 8:13 pm

    greg,

Sometimes we don’t have a choice. Sometimes the threat is too great to ignore. Had we taken your advice in the late 1930’s and early 1940’s, we would all be speaking either japanese or german as our first language. Adolf Hitler and the Emperor of Japan were too great of a threat for America to not enter WW2 and send our young men and women overseas to stop them. I believe President Bush is saying that the global threat of terrorism is too great to ignore. I believe that an all volunteer military is simply not nearly enough to do the job. The enemy is too great and is located in too many places to not have a military to meet the challenge. There are times when freedom needs to be defended and at times it may cost the lives of our brave sons and daughters. John McCain has the courage to understand those principles and he has the courage to make the hard decision to bring back the draft so we can make our military strong and ready. We need to make sure Senator McCain becomes President McCain so that we will have the troops necessary to fight for freedom and democracy around the entire globe.

For better or worse, President George W. Bush is our leader and the Commander in Chief of the military. He ultimately makes the decision ask Congress to declare war. We can criticize him and Congress all we want but the fact remains that in a democracy, the majority rules and the majority of Americans have indeed elected President Bush and all of those who serve us in Congress. The fact of the matter is, President Bush along with Congress, decided to declare war on terrorism worldwide. You can say that our leaders are corrupt all you want but the bottom line is, these leaders were elected by the people. In keeping with that idea, our leaders can decide to reinstitute the military draft is they so choose. We have to trust their judgement because, after all, we the people elected them to office. Our all volunteer military has been sufficient to serve our needs prior to 9/11 and the destruction of the World Trade Center in NYC. However, when that happened, America entered a new era. America realized that terrorism is a global threat. Our President, along with the support of Congress, decided to go to war against global terrorism. Almost immediately our leaders saw that our troops strength was not enough to sustain a long term conflict against terrorists around the globe. The fact is, we need more troops to send to many regions and our current troops strength is just not sufficient. A military draft is necessary. President Bush knows that bringing back a draft will not be popular and will hurt McCain’s run for the White House. However, after John McCain is elected, I expect to see him bring back the draft as one of his first priorities. This is the right thing to do because I believe America is committed to defeating terrorism.

  19. Ted on August 29, 2008 at 10:07 am

I don’t think it matters who gets elected in the November 2008 election, I believe the world is becoming so dangerous that America must increase the military budget and allow for more military personnel. Reinstitution of the military draft will be absolutely necessary regardless of which party controls our government. Manditory military service for all Americans over the age of 18 will be a normal process in the very near future.
